Hotels in The Scottish Borders

Due to its precarious location on the cultural battlefield between Scotland and England, the region known as the Borders has an exciting and turbulent history.

With a historic reputation for villainy and lawlessness, the region was constantly fought over by Kings for hundreds of years. At the same time, the Kings of Scotland were always trying to bring order to the region, hence the appearance of some of the beautiful abbeys in the area. Sometimes overlooked by tourists journeying north, the Borders have a lot to offer for those looking for a tranquil and picturesque getaway.

There are a number of high quality hotels in the Scottish Borders, such as the County Hotel in Selkirk, which began life as a coaching inn. When visiting Peebles, you could stay in the wonderful 4-star Macdonald Cardrona Hotel, Golf and Country Club, which has impressive views of the Border Hills, its own golf course, swimming pool and gym. Dryburgh Abbey Hotel, set on the banks of the River Tweed is a fantastic 19th century baronial hall now converted to a first class 4-star country house.
